More about Cymbeline

Secrets and lies. It’s human nature.

A secret marriage changes the course of two ancient kingdoms. For the first time in ten years, see Cymbeline, Shakespeare’s late, tragic comedy of love and rebellion, in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

Cymbeline is queen of ancient Britain. When her daughter, Imogen, secretly marries against her mother’s will, Posthumus is banished to Rome. In exile, Posthumus places a bet on Imogen’s innocence, a gamble they will soon regret.

As Rome readies for war, can Imogen bridge her two worlds to bring peace and reconciliation?

Director Jennifer Tang (Further Than The Furthest Thing, Young Vic) makes her Globe directorial debut, exploring nature, nurture and the role of female leadership in a man’s world.
