More about Hansel and Gretel

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Hansel & Gretel, as a new version of The Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage transforms the Globe Theatre with poetry, songs and hope this winter.

Featured in Evening Standard’s 2023 Best Children's Shows to Book at Christmas.

When Hansel and Gretel’s parents decide their only option to give their children a better life is to abandon them in the woods, the children must fend for themselves.

‘A road made of bits of bread, says she? Yes, a road, and a road we can eat – follow me!’ Hansel and Gretel’s attempt to get home soon gets side-tracked – quite literally – by a trail of treats too good to resist and a seemingly-sweet stranger with a plan of her own…

Returning with a new recipe of music, mayhem and festive magic, this is a delicious treat for everyone aged 5+ directed by Nick Bagnall (Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Globe).

‘It might be cold when the north wind blows, frost might nibble your fingers and toes, but the heart ignites, the heart ignites.’

All seats are priced according to visibility. The roof of the stage and all gallery seats are held up by pillars; there is no seat in the theatre from which the action is not obscured at some point by pillars.

Whilst all seats are covered, the theatre is open to the elements and performances continue whatever the weather. There are 28 steps to the middle gallery and 50 steps to the upper gallery. Those who may have problems climbing stairs, or who suffer from vertigo, are advised to request tickets in the lower gallery. Assistance can be requested for those with mobility difficulties.
