The much-loved 1995 film Clueless is set to hit the West End stage with a fresh adaptation and an exciting cast. Inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, Clueless follows the charming but meddlesome Cher Horowitz, the social queen of Beverly Hills High, as she navigates teenage life by matchmaking and “improving” the lives of her friends.
This adaptation, crafted by Clueless film writer-director Amy Heckerling, offers a new spin with a lively score by singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, famed for hits like "Suddenly I See." Lyrics come from Grammy-winning lyricist Glenn Slater, whose credits include Sister Act and Tangled. Directed by Rachel Kavanaugh (Half a Sixpence), with choreography by Kelly Devine (Come From Away), the production is designed to bring Cher's world to life with ‘90s flair and energy.
Emma Flynn stars as Cher, taking on the iconic role originally played by Alicia Silverstone. Reflecting on her role, Flynn said she’s "beyond excited" to embody Cher, aiming to capture her wit and heart for a new generation. Keelan McAuley joins as Josh, bringing Paul Rudd's beloved character to the stage. McAuley praised Tunstall’s score, which he says brings a fresh, nostalgic vibe to the show.
The musical, set to open at London’s Trafalgar Theatre on 15 February 2025, will run until June, and with Tunstall’s music adding a new layer to the story, Clueless promises to be a feel-good hit for both longtime fans and newcomers.
