The acclaimed West End production of "Hadestown" is set to see the departure of two of its leading stars, Grace Hodgett-Young and Dónal Finn, next month. Hodgett-Young, who portrays Eurydice, and Finn, who takes on the role of Orpheus, will give their final performances on 25 August 2024 at the Lyric Theatre in London.
"Hadestown" is a groundbreaking musical that intertwines the mythic love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice with that of Hades and Persephone, set against a backdrop of a journey to the underworld and back. The show, which opened on 10 February 2024, has been lauded by critics, with Sarah Crompton describing it as "the most exhilarating ride."
The musical features music, lyrics, and a book by Grammy-winning artist Anaïs Mitchell and is directed by Tony Award-winner Rachel Chavkin. The departure of Hodgett-Young and Finn coincides with their exciting new projects. Hodgett-Young is heading to New York for the US premiere of Jamie Lloyd’s production of "Sunset Boulevard," while Finn's popular series "The Wheel of Time" is gearing up for its third season release next year.
As fans await news of their replacements, Melanie La Barrie, Gloria Onitiri, and Zachary James continue to bring their talents to the roles of Hermes, Persephone, and Hades, respectively. "Hadestown," which began its journey in 2016 at the New York Theatre Workshop, has since enjoyed international success, winning eight Tony Awards and becoming the highest-grossing musical in the history of Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre.
