Lynette Linton, the Artistic Director of Bush Theatre, expressed pride in the theatre's commitment to developing new writing, highlighting "Red Pitch" as a significant example of their success. The play, portraying the beautiful story of three young Black men navigating life through their deep-rooted friendship centered around football, enjoyed immense success at the Bush Theatre, prompting its move to the West End.
This marks a milestone for the Bush Theatre, as "Red Pitch" becomes the first production to transfer to the West End under Lynette Linton's leadership. The play, which follows a group of friends united by their local football pitch facing demolition, garnered several awards, including the George Devine Award and Best New Play at the OffWestEnd Awards. Tyrell Williams, the playwright, was honored with the Best Writer award at the Stage Debut Awards, the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright, and the Most Promising Playwright accolade at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards.
