The highly praised Donmar Warehouse production of "Next to Normal" is set to make its debut in the West End next summer for a limited 14-week run. The Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical, composed by Tom Kitt with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, will grace the Wyndham's Theatre starting from June 18, 2024, with a press night scheduled for June 26, 2024. Michael Longhurst, the Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse, will continue to helm the production.
Longhurst expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Some stories pierce the heart of the human condition: Tom and Brian's astonishing musical does just that - facing our deepest vulnerabilities while celebrating our capacity to endure." Reflecting on the overwhelming audience response at the Donmar, he added, "Tickets were impossible to come by, so I am beyond thrilled that more people will now be able to experience the work of this extraordinary creative team."
The production, which delves into the complexities of mental illness and grief within a suburban family, earned accolades for its emotional resonance during its run at the Donmar Warehouse. The West End cast is yet to be announced. The creative team includes Nigel Lilley for music supervision, Chloe Lamford for design, Lee Curran for lighting, Tony Gayle for sound design, Ann Yee for movement, choreography, and additional direction, Tal Rosner for video, Nick Barstow for musical direction, Chris Hay for production management, and Anna Cooper for casting.
