Cast has been announced for the world premiere of the new musical Glory Ride directed by Kelly Devine (award-winning choreographer on Come From Away).
The show will run at London's Charing Cross Theatre from April 22 2023 to July 29 2023, with an opening night on April 28 2023.
The musical, previously developed through workshops in Los Angeles and New York and having sold-out staged concerts last year, is based on a true story and explores the life of Italian icon of the 1940s, a Tour de France winner Gino Bartali.
Bartali cycled thousands of miles between cities across Italy and risked his life by saving hundreds of people from fascism during World War II. His story carries a powerful message about bravery, loyalty and choosing to do the right thing regardless of the consequences.
Starring: Josh St. Clair (Frozen) as Gino Bartali, with Amy Di Bartolomeo as Adriana Bani, Daniel Robinson as Giorgio Nico, Fed Zanni as Major Mario Carita, Ruairidh McDonald as Felix, Ryan Bennett as Commander Graziani, Peter Watts as Fantali, James Coyne as Cosmo, Loris Scarpa as Lorenzo, Susianna Paisio as Rosetta, Steve Watts as Torello, and Alice Spigariol in the ensemble.
The book, lyrics and music are signed by Victoria Buchholz and Todd Buchholz, with the rest of the creative team consisting of Ricky J. Hinds as associate director, Dave Rose as musical director; set, costume, and video design is done by PJ McEvoy, light design by Rob Halliday and orchestration by Jen Green. Harry Blumenau is casting director along with cultural adviser Federico Bellone.
It is said the show transports audiences to the “golden hills of Tuscany during the darkest days of the Second World War, with a story combining heist, history, humour, and humanity and a soaring new score”.
